The Kacimba are a diverse and widespread vec superclade, and do not have any unified culture or morphological standard, united only through common origin. They get their name from a portmanteau of the words for "glass" and "creature" in Jovian Creole.

The Kacimba originate from the binary brown dwarf system Yin-Yang, and became established as a distinct group around 1000 AT. However, proto-Kacimba can be traced back much further, to Alpha Centauri. In 289 AT, various Nauri groups around Alpha Centauri had grown so ideologically distinct that hostilities broke out between them, in an event known as the First Nauri Dispute. These groups viciously fought each other for control, as whoever won would get to determine the future of the star system. At the end of the war, the groups which wanted to continue following the consortium around Solsys were almost completely wiped out. The Nauri Coalition, a union between more moderate groups, was victorious. They focused on neutrality, wishing for a peaceful, independent Nauri civilization, and began to force groups which they deemed "extremists" out of the Alpha Centauri and Proxima Centauri systems. A group known as the Wave Calls was sent to SCR 1845−6357 (Less Dim Twins), while another group known as the Nauri First was sent to DENIS J1048-3956 (Sysactria). One group of Nauri, known as the True Shakes, believed that communication needed to be re-established between the Nauri and the wider Terragen civilization, and had even hijacked infrastructure in an attempt to do so. The Nauri Coalition deemed them a threat, as they viewed the Class R massacre 1 in 365 AT as evidence that Terragen civilization was openly hostile to the Nauri and believed that isolation was the only way to ensure the safety of their civilization. In 562 AT, the True Shakes were rounded up, put on a beamrider vessel, and exiled to Yin-Yang (known to Nauri as the Dim Twins), arriving in 597 AT.

In 632 AT, a beamrider ship arrived from Solsys, carrying mostly Madi colonists. At first, the Nauri and the colonists (referred to as Luhmanese) stayed apart, and the system was partitioned, with the Nauri occupying the larger of the two brown dwarfs. However, the two civilizations gradually grew closer and intermixed, eventually collaborating to send a beamrider ship to the brown dwarves Patala and Praxis-Gnosis. By 1000 AT the Nauri and beamrider colonists around Yin-Yang, Patala, and Praxis-Gnosis had each unified into singular civilizations, and the Nauri were viewed as just another clade. The Nauri of these systems realized that they had diverged to the point that they had little in common with Nauri from Alpha Centauri, Proxima Centauri, the Less Dim Twins, or Sysactria, but had much more in common with each other, being united by a common set of operating systems, anatomical components, reproductive methods, and languages alongside a relatively small number of body plans. They began to identify themselves as a new clade, which they named Kacimba. Before this, the word "Kacimba" was simply the Luhmanese word for Nauri. The idea of the Kacimba spread between the three systems and created a strong cultural unity.

The original Kacimba were mostly adapted to vacuum or the high pressure environments in deep ocean moons. Some Kacimba modified themselves to resemble Madi. They were united by the shared cultural value of "Kacimbalic computer architectures" which allowed an early form of engeneration templates for vecs. Similar to the Nauri, they could reproduce both sexually and asexually, as well as in a factory assembly line/ecology system. Kacimba moved through a life cycle consisting of a set of body plans.

Many Kacimba joined the Deeper Covenant, spreading throughout the Beamrider Network to systems such as Akela and Rihal. By 2500 AT, they had dispersed throughout the Terragen Sphere, diversifying into a variety of subgroups and different polity-mechologies that retained little in common with each other. In the Current Era, there are a wide variety of Kacimba descendant groups, many of which are completely alien to each other and retain little of their original culture, though some still acknowledge their Kacimba heritage. Though descended from them, many Kacimba descendants do not wish to be considered part of Clade Nauri. Some of this is due to Kacimban cultural pride, but a large part is that the inclusion of Kacimba within clade Nauri is associated with disfavored ideologies such as Nauri supremacism and Nauri reclamationism which are credited with the destructive Third Nauri Dispute.

Much of Kacimba interpersonal culture remains unknown by current historians due to the internalized nature of their communications, which left few external remains and much of their material culture in the core of their societies was recycled so accounts of their behavior and culture come from secondhand sources. Like early Nauri culture, early Kacimba culture is filled with inside jokes, many of which have had their meanings lost to time. Early Kacimba also had a unique naming system, similar to the early Nauri naming system.

FOOTNOTE

[1] "Class R Massacre" refers to the attack by "Class R" probes, a series of heavily weaponized and armored military-grade spacecraft which attacked the Nauri in 365 AT. They had been sent by organizations from Solsys as part of Project Frontier
