"How many yachts could a yottapod yottalate if a yottapod could yottalate yachts?"Modosophont Transapientech researchers remain unsure of the true purpose of a Yottalator, or even the full extent of its capabilities. Created by the S3 "Wormwood to the Cosmic Wind" in 6794 AT, the device quickly grew in population across the megastructures they were installed in. The primary ability of a Yottalator seems to be non-destructively uploading and converting the matter within it into a specific kind of virtual simulation in a method similar to an engenerator, and in rare instances, granting requests and growing or fabricating engenerator templates of organisms from publicly available libraries. Unlike engenerators, the physics models of the uploaded materials, objects, or even entire landscapes become incompatible with all other simulated objects and cause them to progress along their probable lifetime from initial formation to eventual dissolution, but along a timeline which must be graphed along three time dimensions as well as the usual three spatial ones. In addition, a simplified version of the object will often become available in the yottalator's local net interface for public download and printing/fabrication in up to seven basic materials. Most Transapientech researchers consider this to be a distraction or unlikely to be the "true" purpose.

a Yottalator moves by rolling forward or rotating within itself like a toroid bag and reforming itself over the ground. The avatars of their public interfaces appear to have sub-sophont intelligence, but no research has managed to deconstruct one successfully in its entirety. Yottalators often self replicate into swarms numbering in the billions. Its creator, Wormwood to the Cosmic Wind has explained only these two purposes when asked and consistently redirects the attention of the interviewer toward another topic. The avatars of Other transapients and archailects simply repeat the words of Wormwood to the wind. In many local polities where the device appears, the citizens will colloquially refer to toposophic ascension with the phrase "understanding the true purpose of a yottalator".
