Biological robots and vecs derived from alife templates. They are known as 'softbots' because they started their existence as software infomorphs.
Such entities may exist for an extended period in a virtual environment designed to promote evolution towards certain ends; after this development period, the alife entities are installed in suitable bodymorphs based on their virtual form. To qualify as a 'softbot'. these bodies must be built entire of organic components, like any carbon- or exotic-chemistry based life-form.
Softbots are subsapient biobots, while fully sophont forms are known as softvecs. Because of their alife origin, some softbots are extremely exotic in form and psychology. One example of this is the Fractaroni Spaghetti Worm. A select few ascend to transapient status.
