It was pointed out to me this morning that Ray Bradbury's story "There Will Come Soft Rains", collected in The Martian Chronicles, is set on the distant future date of August 4th and 5th, 2026(!).
That story (and the rest of the collection) has been a favorite of mine since childhood. I guess I'm glad we got to this point without the events of the story actually happening (knock on wood
