It seems the female Pacific beetle cockroach gives live birth, then feeds her young with a pale liquid from her brood sac.

The scientist in this article says it is among the most nutritious substances on Earth.  But they haven't actually verified it's safe for human consumption.

She says it doesn't seem to taste like anything.

But somebody on another podcast said it tastes terrible.

I heard about this on a recent Halloween episode of Scishow Tangents, at about 29 minutes.

The article states somebody is working on genetically engineering yeast to produce the same milk.  Yeast might be easier to genetically engineer.

I heard about this cockroach milk a few years ago. I suggested as a staple to go with soy products in the Shadowrun setting but it didn't go over well with the gaming community.
