Jesus, just found out on Twtter - and confirmed on Wikipedia - that Vernor Vinge is dead. Vinge, as is well known, popularized the notion of the Singularity

Ah, that's a shame. We can put a notice in the next Updates page; Vinge's stories are one of the main inspirations for OA.

That is sad and agreed a mention on the next Updates page would be appropriate.
Vinge's Marooned in Realtime introduced me to the idea of the Singularity and his writings on the subject (particularly his early paper on it) should be considered a must-read by anyone interested in it.
