Hm. Interesting. Assuming this pans out it seems more like generating a warp bubble externally and at a tiny scale - but that could have direct applications and might lead to larger scale (comparatively speaking) devices.

Indeed. Superluminal signalling is an obvious one; this is very close to the scale commonly involved in integrated circuits.
