Thank you for the comments and grammar suggestions, Dfleymmes. I welcome any further constructive suggestions regarding the prologue and characters.
One of the ironies of writing this novel is that the prologue is literally the last thing I wrote. For a while, I was undecided as to how or where the novel should begin, given the nature of the setting and characters.
Gabrielle Gilson and SwanSword will be properly introduced about 1/5 of the way into the novel. The story is basically a "magic meets technology" scenario in the style of Peter F Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy or Julian May's Saga of the Exiles.
That means you get to see Dragons fighting robots.
