we'd have to know a bit more but I'm sure we could find one or two ways for your world to fit. If the aliens are quite human-like one option would be to have the world artificially evolved; perhaps originally it had primitive life and at some point a passing, eccentric transapient ran simulations of how the world's evolution turned out. It chose one in which sentient humanoids evolved and terra formed the world according to that before buggering off.
