So, on a whim, I tried finding this story online tonight (something I'd tried before without success). This time, I was successful (Woot!!!).
I have this story in one of my back issues of Analog magazine and it remains one of my favorites to this day. It combines grand thinking about the Singularity and what it might be like to be a post-human with a lot of heart, warmth, poignancy, and yes, humanity.
Been wanting to share this with the group for a while - now I can. Hope you like:
