On August 15th, 1956, the "Battle of Palmdale" marked the first battle between humanity and Skynet. An aerial drone rampaged across the skies of Los Angeles and proved unstoppable, with no less than 208 rockets failing to bring it down. Eventually, its mission complete (or, well, fuel exhausted) it burrowed underground (crashed) to await Skynet's call.
The aftermath included a 350-acre wildfire and many sets of soiled underwear on the ground, since those unguided air-to-air rockets rained across the landscape. No one was killed, but one must assume the machines were only lulling us into complacency.
