I'm trying to imagine these things under test using the primitive control systems of the 1960s. After launch they'd probably speed off in random directions- manoeuverabilty is a desirable trait in a missile, but trying to control such a flamboyantly aerobatic missile using 1960's tech would be a major headache.

Mind you this would be relatively easy today - there are all sorts of hobbyist drones that can do remarkable things nowadays.
