This seems like a great architecture for a small flying machine. Made from better materials, and with better power sources and motors, and I could see them existing in OA's present-day.
They autorotate automatically; they can't crash from a power failure. That's also a way to deploy them; they could be dropped by a larger drone at altitude and they could autorotate down thousands of meters until powering up.
