Children of Memory - MacGregor - 02-15-2025 Hey everyone, I just finished Children of Memory the third book in the Children of Time series by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Anyone else read it? I can’t recommend these books enough. Very smart and well written. While this might be the weakest of the books so far, it was very good and did a great job of highlighting the possible different forms if consciousness from human, group, provolved, machine, etc. RE: Children of Memory - DSPE - 03-04-2025 I am reading it! I am only one chapter in, but I really like the diversity of the cast (beyond real life diversity, lol), and the history, and the setting in general. I can't wait to read about what the crew do next! RE: Children of Memory - DSPE - 03-04-2025 However, the farm setting at the beginning was quite jarring. I know that this is because of the screwed up colonization efforts, but still! RE: Children of Memory - MacGregor - 03-05-2025 Glad you’re reading it. Yeah, I will admit the agrarian/rural setting is a common trope many sci-fi series eventually visit (The expanse: season 4, Star Trek: Insurrection, etc.). IMO I think this often is a mistake. One often reads these books for the space aspects. All the characters milling around in a small town is somewhat underwhelming . Still, Children of Memory finishes strong so stick with it. RE: Children of Memory - DSPE - 03-05-2025 Thanks for the recommendation! However, it's kind of disturbing to me how dead the town of Landfall feels - there is child labor and xenophobia! It feels like the technology there will improve extremely slowly, or not at all. What are these people even living for? |
