Hello there! I have recently entered this little corner of the internet and I am still trying to find my way around here.
My main activities will involve fan art. What's the best way to get started?

the best way is to look around the OA setting and find topics or characters that interest you , and draw them
have you read the introduction, FAQ, and primer, listed on the homepage? that can sometimes help.
posting here on the forum / attaching files can be good, though posting on discord is fine too to get ideas or feedback
what kind of drawings do you like to make? characters? scenes? logos?
want to draw some muuh playing very slow capture the flag? go for it. A bunch of vacuum adapted humans laughing at a comedy show? all yours. Cyborg T-rexes having a sword fight in. a dome on the moon? totally fine. Speculative evolution of any kind from the garden worlds ? Go for it
personally i've thought that the most 'iconic' kind of art for OA would be provolved earth animals , holding or interacting with some kind of biomechanical or biological looking technology , often with a megastructure in the background. but you draw what you like.
