Link - Star is crowded by super-Earths - terrafamilia - 06-26-2013 Star is crowded by super-Earths By Jonathan Amos Science correspondent, BBC News Scientists have identified three new planets around a star they already suspected of hosting a trio of worlds. It means this relatively nearby star, Gliese 667C, now has three so-called super-Earths orbiting in its "habitable zone". This is the region where temperatures ought to allow for the possibility of liquid water, although no-one can say for sure what conditions are really like on these planets. Gliese 667C is 22 light-years away. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23032467 http://www.eso.org/public/archives/releases/sciencepapers/eso1328/eso1328a.pdf Gliese 667 already has an article which may need a revision, or not, or at least not yet, as this may still be somewhat preliminary. Ciao, Terrafamilia RE: Link - Star is crowded by super-Earths - mark_ryherd - 07-01-2013 Well all of those planets have fairly short orbital periods so it shouldn't be too long before there is a definitive up or down on those additional worlds with new data points. |
