The USS Ponce was named after Juan Ponce de Leon, an explorer and certainly worthy of such an honour; nevertheless this is an unintentionally funny name in the UK,

We Brits, particularly Navy for some reason, might appreciate it too. The Flower-class corvettes caused a little hilarity; although apparently the Navy drew the line at naming one of them HMS Pansy. Smile

The one that always makes me laugh is HMS Terrible

of course the meaning of the word 'terrible' has shifted slightly over the years; in the old days it just meant 'capable of inspiring terror'.
