Laser shoots down UAV - stevebowers. - 04-10-2013 I like this, especially the ship's name http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22076705 The USS Ponce was named after Juan Ponce de Leon, an explorer and certainly worthy of such an honour; nevertheless this is an unintentionally funny name in the UK, RE: Laser shoots down UAV - iancampbell - 04-10-2013 We Brits, particularly Navy for some reason, might appreciate it too. The Flower-class corvettes caused a little hilarity; although apparently the Navy drew the line at naming one of them HMS Pansy. ![]() RE: Laser shoots down UAV - stevebowers. - 04-11-2013 The one that always makes me laugh is HMS Terrible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Terrible of course the meaning of the word 'terrible' has shifted slightly over the years; in the old days it just meant 'capable of inspiring terror'. |
