Miidam Posthuman Republic

The Miidam Posthuman Republic was a relativist polity established during the Age of Consolidation by a coalition of small polities formerly affiliated with the Old Taurus Nexus as it fragmented during the First Consolidation War. Initially formed to escape the conflict aboard a fleet of relativistic colony ships, the Republic gradually transformed into a migratory civilization, directing its efforts toward the exploration of the expanding frontier of Terragen space. Each colony ship constituted one of the Republic's member states, housing a self-contained biome inhabited by a few million human-derived modosophonts and between three and six SI:1 posthumans. Originally there were only seven ships, one associated with each founding polity, but over its lifetime the Republic grew larger, encompassing over 1500 vessels at its height.
Although all transapients exercised considerable influence within their respective member states, only one served at a time as the ship's representative on the Federal Council of the SI:1 posthumans. The role was periodically reassigned every 25 years through cyberdemocratic consensus among the modosophont citizens, with no individual permitted to hold the position for more than four consecutive terms. The remaining transapients managed other critical aspects of the ship's operation, technological development and societal welfare, working in collaboration with modosophont institutions and specialists. At the Federal level, the Council was responsible for Republic-wide affairs, including migration planning, new ship construction, resolution of disputes among member-states, new ascension events, and the coordination of demographic flows across the fleet, ensuring balanced populations and sustainable resource utilization.
Renowned for its expertise in neogenic, bioborg and cybernetic technologies, spacecraft engineering, and long-range relativistic colonization, the Republic secured the patronage of the Technorapture Hypernation and established more than one hundred colonies along a migration corridor toward the Outer Cassiopeia Sector, Perseus Arm. After millennia of service to the TRHN, the Republic came to an end in 6119 AT, when its ruling council and the majority of its population underwent a collective ascension into a single SI:2 distributed fleet mind. This transapient then abruptly dissolved the Republic's remaining political institutions before withdrawing from direct involvement in modosophont affairs.
Following its dissolution, many of the Republic's more distant and newer colonies experienced periods of severe decline, political conflicts and war. Some then became independent polities, while others were absorbed into neighboring interstellar empires. Nevertheless, the legacy of the early Miidam settlers endured in some cultures throughout the region. Those retained or acquired, in varying forms and degrees, an ethos valuing frontier exploration, technological innovation, and migratory lifestyles. However, many successor civilizations also developed high levels of wariness toward transapients and their inherent unpredictability, leading them to reject TRHN offers of assistance and avoid further ascension attempts.
Nevertheless, the region continued to recover and develop on their own. Through successive waves of colonization, these societies contributed to the expansion the so-called Old Miidam Posthuman Volume beyond the Republic's original holdings. In later eras, when the Xeon blight established themselves, they encountered a fertile ground for expansion: a fragmented frontier populated primarily by modosophont civilizations, scattered artifacts of advanced technology whose purposes and capabilities were often poorly understood by the locals, and the looming shadow of an enigmatic and independent SI:4 archailect seemingly supportive of Xeon expansion: Holiness UltraViolet Starburst.
