Art and parascience of working with ch'i energy. Generally the term is used by those who go beyond the idea of individual techniques of self-discipline and self-development and wish to imply a 'technology' of ch'i involving various devices that purportedly store, create, project, or modify it. An example of such devices would be the class of items called 'cloudbusters'. This field is regarded as marginal by many, including those who otherwise have some use or regard for the idea of ch'i energy. Practitioners of chionics are often accused of quackery or self-deception or both. Nevertheless it is considered a respectable field in some quarters.
